La Flamme

Author and Illustrator: Jorge González

"In Llamarada, the lives of José (Jorge's grandfather who was nicknamed Llamarada during his career as a footballer), Jorge (his father), Mateo (his son) and Leo (his other son who is about to be born in the final chapter) intersect on the grass of the football fields, as well as his own. A heartfelt tribute to the men who have marked and mark the artist's life the most. Each of the periods in which the story takes place has a particular style from the emptiness of the sets of the parts that take place in this century, through to the detail that we see in Buenos Aires in the last century. The places where the stories take place often acquire more importance than the characters, perhaps because they survive and people are often just passing through. The use of color is wonderful and manages to transmit the emotions of the characters and fill the story with evocative atmospheres. In Llamarada we see multiple techniques: pencils, acrylics, black and white, color, realism, abstraction, small vignettes, double-page spreads, full-bleed vignettes, etc., but all the resources serve to enhance the work and although so many changes seem to lead to a disjointed work, the result is incredibly coherent and solid." description courtesy of zonanegativa (dot) com
